Working both with industry and a local community, Couch White recently persuaded a predominantly rural town to establish their first and only Commercial and Industrial Zones. After carefully assessing the risks and rewards of pushing ahead with the project in a hostile environment versus the uncertain outcome of seeking to persuade a town to adopt favorable zoning, the decision was made to risk an approach to the town. The end result was the creation of a zoning district that explicitly allowed not only the company’s desired use of the property, but also greatly expanded business opportunities for the company within the town.
